TikTok can be a confusing place for business owners – especially if you happen to be over the age of 25. Don’t worry though, it’s a great place to reach a new audience and can be easy to learn!
Here are some steps to take to get started on TikTok:
1. Create an account
Claim your business name as your handle on TikTok, even if you don’t use the account
Use an email that will be accessible, even if the employee setting up the account moves on to another job
2. Set up your account as a Business Account
In the menu, select “Settings and Privacy” and then select “Account.” Then select “Switch to a Business Account” and follow directions
Having a business account ensures that you’re using sounds and songs available for commercial use and gives you access to TikTok’s creative tools for business
3. Explore the app
Spend some time watching, liking, and searching for videos. Pay attention to what others in your industry are doing
Notice trending sounds and songs
4. Jump on trends
Trends tend to move more quickly on TikTok than other social platforms. Aim to join a trending sound/song as it’s growing and peaking, rather than as it’s trailing out
You can recycle old videos with new sounds! This is a great way to be more efficient with content creation time
5. Embrace the lofi spirit
TikTok isn’t the place for fancy and expensive production values. Lower production values and a sense of spontaneity reign
Go for quantity over quality. TikTok values high video output, so experiment and see what works!
